Here is the quick answer. Yes, video is in the centre of online marketing. However, that was almost a year ago. The quick explanation to the answer is pictures. Pictures are getting ahold of online marketing. And forget about text. Text-only content does not work anymore. Mostly, text is for those who cannot afford to generate audio, image, or video content, and for those who are focusing on SEO.

Anyway, pictures are faster to load than an online video. They are faster when it comes to delivering the intended message. But it does not mean that video cannot go back to its place as the central and most effective content type in online marketing. Picture is king now — but not for long.

In a few years, better Internet speed will become available to everybody. Loading videos will become as fast as loading pictures. That is one problem solved.

There is another problem though: the speed on how videos can deliver messages. You should probably know that people’s attention spans, little by little, are decreasing. And no, that is not because they are becoming dumber.

Also, most people have already have this mindset that there will be always better content. If they find your video’s first few seconds boring, they will not hesitate to look for another that can satisfy their needs or capture their interests.

However, it does not mean that you have to stop using videos for online marketing just because you are afraid that your videos will be ignored and the expense of making that 10-minute video of yours will go to waste.

The key here is that you need to accustom yourself with the current trend. You do not need to wait for Internet speeds to improve. You do not need to wrack your head on how to make your first few seconds of video be interesting.

The solution, for you to retract the power of video marketing, is to create short videos. That’s right — short videos that only have durations of 5 to 120 seconds.

If you were paying attention to the current trend, you will notice that most of the “videos” that became viral on social media platforms are shorts. That is the same reason why most content creators, mostly entertainers, settle on creating videos using Vine and even Giphy.

The bottom line here is that, currently, pictures are the most useable online marketing tools now. But online video content is ready to take over again soon — although, in the form of shorts. If you want to get ahead of the competition, you had better invest your time in creating content like that.
